21st February is the international mother language day that has been started to celebrate from 17 November 1999, when UNESCO declared. This day has a glorious background story. In the year 1952, Bangladesh was colonized by Pakistan and known as East Pakistan. In that time, the Pakistani rulers declared that ‘Urdu will be the state language of Pakistan’. That’s mean even the East Pakistani also have to speak Urdu in the government office, universities and others. The students and general people didn’t accept the decision. They started a big rally in the Dhaka University area. And the police killed a few people and students there. Salam, Jabbar, Rafik, Barkat, etc Shaheeds are mostly known as the martyrs of the language revolution. The people build the first Shaheed Minar to pay respect for them. And then the government changed their decision and kept Bengali as the state language of East Pakistan. This is the first and only life sacrificing for the language in the history of this world. And the UNESCO has provided the proper respect for this. More than 188 countries celebrate this day as their mother language day and pay respect for Shaheed who died on 21st February 1952.
